Getting to Ghana

Airline Information

The primary international gateway to Ghana is Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra.

Major Airlines: You can find direct and connecting flights to Accra from various parts of the world. For our guests traveling from:

  • The United States: Consider airlines like United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Turkish Airlines.

  • The United Kingdom: British Airways and Virgin Atlantic offer direct flights.

  • Other International Destinations: Many other reputable airlines operate routes to Accra. We recommend using flight comparison websites (like Google Flights, Skyscanner, Kayak) to explore your options.

Travel Tip: We strongly advise booking your flights well in advance, especially since February can be a popular travel season.

Booking at least 3-6 months ahead will often secure better fares and availability.

Ghana Entry Visa Requirements: A U.S. Traveler's Essential Guide

This guide is specifically tailored for U.S. passport holders applying through a Ghanaian Mission in the United States (Washington D.C., New York, or Houston).

1. Non-Negotiable Requirements (The Quick Checklist)

For U.S. citizens, an entry visa is MANDATORY and must be secured before booking non-refundable travel.

  • PASSPORT VALIDITY: Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months beyond your planned date of departure from Ghana.

  • BLANK PAGES: You need a minimum of two (2) opposite blank pages in your passport for the visa sticker and entry stamps.

  • YELLOW FEVER CARD: A copy of your valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is required for entry upon arrival in Accra.

2. The Application Process: Online + Mail-In Submission

The Ghana visa process for U.S. travelers is a two-step process requiring both an online submission and a physical packet mailed to the corresponding Embassy or Consulate.

  1. Online Application: Complete and submit the application form via the official Mission website (e.g., Washington D.C. Mission's Terms).

  2. Upload Documents: Digitally upload copies of all required documents (see Section 4) to the portal.

  3. Print & Sign: Print the completed application form, sign it, and include it in your physical submission packet.

  4. Pay Fees: Pay the visa fee online. (See Section 5 for current Washington D.C. fees).

  5. Mail Packet: Mail your complete physical packet, including your original passport, to the Embassy/Consulate using a pre-paid, self-addressed return envelope with tracking (FedEx or UPS are highly recommended). This envelope is how they return your passport!

3. Key Documents to Prepare (U.S. Traveler Checklist)

Gather these documents for both the online upload and the physical mail-in packet:

  • Completed Application Form: The printed and signed form from the online submission.

  • Original U.S. Passport: Must meet the 6-month validity requirement.

  • Passport Photos (2): Two recent color passport-sized photos (2"×2") with a white or off-white background, taken within the last six months.

  • Flight Itinerary: Confirmed round-trip flight itinerary showing your name and travel dates.

  • Accommodation Proof:

    • Host Invitation - Please take a photo of your invitation or ask the Bride (8324072044) for a digital copy.

  • Yellow Fever Card copy.

  • Proof of Financial Means: Evidence of sufficient funds (e.g., recent bank statement, traveler's check copy).

4. Processing Time and Fees (Washington D.C. Estimates)

Processing times do not include mailing time. Always factor in an extra week for transit.

  • Note on Fees: These are the baseline consular fees; third-party processing services (if used) and merchant fees (for online card payment) are additional.

Disclaimer: Requirements and fees are subject to change without notice by the Government of Ghana. Always verify the latest details directly on the official Mission website corresponding to your jurisdiction (D.C., New York, or Houston) before submitting your application.

Wedding Day Transportation

We understand that navigating a new city can be daunting. We are currently exploring options to arrange group transfers from our recommended hotels to the main wedding venue for key events. We will provide detailed information on this closer to the wedding date, so please check back here!

Getting around Accra is relatively easy once you're familiar with the options:

  • Ride-hailing AppsUber and Bolt are widely used, reliable, and generally the most convenient options for getting around the city. Simply download the app, set your destination, and pay through the app or with cash to the driver.

  • Taxis: Traditional taxis are readily available. It's advisable to agree on the fare beforehand to avoid any misunderstandings.

  • "Tro-tros": These are local minibuses and a very affordable way to travel. However, they can be crowded, follow set routes, and might be less familiar for international visitors.
